New Courses

Mind2Work Training Course starts Monday 7th September. This course provides IT Skills, Employability Skills and English Language Support to male and female members of the Black and Minority Ethnic communities, asylum seekers and refugees who are experiencing or have experienced mental ill-health.

Monthly CV workshops will be held on the first Tuesday of every month. These workshops will focus on

  • how to create an on-line friendly CV

  • how to project yourself through your CV

  • how to show your personality as well as your ability

  • how to create an attractive and unique CV

Skillnet and BCDP are pleased to announce the award of over £117,000 from the latest ESF funding round.  These funds will enable the partnership project, the Black Community Skills Project, to continue for another year.

Skillnet and BCDP welcomed Shirley-Anne Somerville, MSP, to present Certificates of Achievement to participants in the Black Community Skills project.

The Annual Graduation was held on the 27th March, at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.

Skillnet are delighted to announce the award of nearly £270,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to develop and deliver the Mind2Work project.

Marion Fletcher, Chair of Skillnet, said

“This award will allow us to continue to support people from Scotland's black and minority ethnic communities, particularly those experiencing mental ill-health, into training and employment and to extend our services to a wider range of clients. Over the next three years we will be able to provide them with a drop-in guidance service, pre-vocational training courses and work placements.

“With the current economic situation creating challenges for all communities, it is more important than ever to ensure that those who face multiple barriers to employment receive the full support to increase their ability to access opportunities."

The AGM of Skillnet will take place on Thursday 29th January at Norton Park, starting at 6pm.

Skillnet are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Guidance Worker and an Administrator.

Jerusalem Barnabas will take up the position of Guidance Worker from the 5th January 2009, and Laureen Campbell will take up the Administrator post from the 13th January.

The Scottish Government, through the Race Religion and Refugee Integration Fund, award Skillnet and BCDP £250,000 towards the Black Community Skills Project.  This funding will run until March 2011, and will be administered by the Voluntary Action Fund.

June 2008

Following the successful training under the ESF Shadow Round, Skillnet and BCDP have been awarded £140,000 from ESF to continue the Black Community Skills Project.

March 2008

Mrs Maureen Watt, Minister for Schools and Skills, presented Certificates of Achievement to those participants who had recently completed the Black Community Skills Project Training.
