Skillnet
Edinburgh Limited is a unique independent voluntary organisation set up in
1996 to enable people from minority ethnic communities to compete more
fairly in the job market by pursuing further educational and training
opportunities, careers advice, and support to enhance their employability.
As an
organisation led by a Board of Directors mainly from minority ethnic
communities; with a ten-year track record of meeting the needs of our
client group, Skillnet Edinburgh is best placed to make a significant
impact by maximising their economic participation through our targeted
services.
All our
services are devised, developed, and delivered in line with user's needs
identified through networking, focus groups, outreach, and through
informal feedback, as well as by working with mainstream service
providers.
Skillnet is based at Norton Park in Edinburgh.
Most of our clients are from Edinburgh and the Lothians, but we are
currently developing best practice pilot responses to the needs of
minority ethnic communities that are to be mainstreamed across Scotland
after 2009.
Objectives:
-
We identify gaps in service provision and barriers to appropriate
training and sustainable employment opportunities by networking with
mainstream service providers
-
We work with a range of employers and policy makers highlighting the
labour market situation for minority ethnic communities in Scotland
-
We provide an adult
guidance service and information resource as the first port-of-call
for visible minorities that enables service users to obtain
information on careers, education and training opportunities
provided by mainstream agencies.
-
We develop and deliver
targeted, responsive services in a welcoming and supportive
environment to combat multiple disadvantage
